10 June 2025
Starting 20 May 2025, the Intellectual Property Office of Singapore (IPOS) has rolled out two new fast-track options for patents and trade marks: SG Patents Fast and SG Trade Marks Fast. These programmes replace the previous SG IP FAST pilot and are designed to help businesses get their IP rights granted more quickly—cutting down on waiting time and helping you move faster in the market.
What’s Changing?
IPOS has simplified the eligibility criteria and introduced clearer timelines and fees. Both patents and trade marks can now be accelerated under more flexible conditions, including international filings entering Singapore, and with more control over the speed of examination.
SG Patents Fast – Speeding Up Patent Grant
Businesses filing patents in Singapore can now opt for one of two fast-track options:
Track |
First Office Action Within |
Acceleration Fee (S&E) |
Acceleration Fee (Exam Only) |
SG Patents Fast 4 |
4 months |
S$1,800 |
S$1,200 |
SG Patents Fast 8 |
8 months |
S$900 |
S$600 |
Additional responses to office actions can be fast-tracked for S$150. To qualify, the application must:
-
Be a standard (non-divisional) Singapore application;
-
Include 20 claims or fewer;
-
Be submitted with the acceleration request and fee alongside a Request for Substantive Examination.
You can choose whether to accelerate the whole process or just parts of it. Up to five fast-track requests can be made each month per applicant—though follow-up responses aren’t capped.
SG Trade Marks Fast – Quicker Brand Protection
Trade mark applications can also move faster under the new programme. If you file a national (Singapore-only) application and pay the relevant fee at the time of filing, you’ll get your first response—either an examination report or publication notice—within three to six weeks.
Description Usage |
Acceleration Fee per Class |
Fully Pre-Approved |
S$200 |
Partially or Not Pre-Approved |
S$250 |
This applies to all classes in a multi-class application. Note: these fast-track options don’t cover international registrations, certification marks, or collective marks.
