One of our Directors, Ken McInnes - who for those that have been following our news know that he spends time living in both Sydney, Australia and Madrid, Spain each year, and is on the Publication Committee of ECTA (the European Trade Mark Committee Association) - once again found himself in Europe to attend the 41st ECTA ANNUAL CONFERENCE – EXPLORING IP MAGIC from 28 June 2023 to 1 July 2023 in beautiful Prague.
With more than 1500 members, coming from all Member States of the EU and beyond, ECTA promotes the knowledge and professionalism of the intellectual property law community in the fields of trade marks, designs, copyright and other intellectual property rights, within the European Union.
The theme of the ECTA 2023 conference ‘Exploring IP Magic’ coincides with Prague’s nickname, the City of Magic. Prague has long been known as a city of creativity, knowledge and inventiveness, and so it is a great location for IP attorneys and lawyers from around the world to come together in Prague to experience the magic together.
The world of IP is constantly changing and the conference topics will reflect new trends and developments. The speakers will enlighten the attendees on IP issues in the online world, EU design reform and anti-counterfeiting, bad faith, brands and sports, non-agri GIs, works of applied arts and geographical names in trade marks. The conference will conclude, of course, with the ever-popular EU case law update.
The conference will include sessions and workshops on Domain Abuse and Trade Mark Abuse, the Latest IP News and Trends: What Are the Current Forces Driving the World of IP?, A Magic Carpet Ride Through the Online World, Illuminating the Design Reform, Anti-counterfeiting Tricks and Spells, Non-agri GIs: Alchemy?, The Superpower of Brands in Sports, Works of Applied Arts: Sparkles Between Corpus Mysticum and Corpus Mechanicum? Paris and Berne Convention, Geographical Names as Trade Marks: Road to Nowhere?, CP13 (Bad Faith) and CP14 (Public Policy or Principles of Morality). Comparative Session with the US. Crossing the Lines Into Dark Magic.
Ken will no doubt have a great time in Prague attending this conference – learning the latest developments in European IP law and practice and most importantly, catching up with long standing business associates, and meeting new ones with whom we can establish new working relationships.
