Principal, Patents and Trade Marks Consultant
Registered Trade Marks Attorney (Australia and New Zealand)
Registered Patent Attorney (New Zealand)
Michael has advised clients on patents and related IP matters since 1970. His practice spans the full lifecycle of rights in Australia and abroad: assessing patentability and protection strategies; drafting, filing and prosecuting Australian and foreign patent, trade mark and design applications; and acting in pre-grant oppositions as well as post-grant validity and infringement matters.
He has delivered seminars and briefings on intellectual property for corporate teams, industry groups and inventors. Earlier in his career, Michael worked as a librarian, gaining hands-on experience with manual and computer-based information-retrieval systems—skills he still draws on in prior-art searching and evidence preparation.
Michael’s focus includes patentability and protection strategy across jurisdictions; drafting and prosecution of patents, trade marks and designs; and managing opposition, validity and infringement proceedings. He also has deep technical experience across Mechanical, Electrical and Civil engineering, as well as Electronics, Computing and Software, and Optics, enabling clear, practical advice to inventors and R&D teams.
